John left England in 1620 onboard the Mayflower bound for the new world.
John Alden was a member Cpt Miles Standish's Militia and carried his own musket to regular drills.
In 1953 the Mayflower Society accepted a chart from Violet Willodean (Helle)
Esmond that traced our lineage back to John Alden.
John left England in 1620 onboard the Mayflower bound for the new world.
Much has been made of this distant link, while it is something to reflect on, you the reader should bear in mind that you can take this lineage and a twenty dollar bill and you can be assured of obtaing a cup of coffee almost any where in this world.
With that said I will be the first to admit it is a pleasant thought that one might have a few genes
that came from this man. Perhaps some of us have more than a few?
Much information can be found on the Internet about John Alden, I would suspect that for the most part it is true.
That he had the fortitude to make the ocean voyage speaks much of his character.
That he left more descendants than any other person on that trip says a lot.
That he outlived all others who made that trip tells us that his health was above average.

The March issue 2001 of the American Rifleman has a photo of one of John Alden's rifles
and a short background story about him. Rest assured that I did contact the NRA and told them that since John was a ancestor it was only fair that I safeguard the rifle. Odd but they never did reply
